Let’s Perform

Mary Power-Cooney’s youth theatre group Theatrics (formerly Poetry n Motion) is now entering its 20th year in Naas. We are based at Naas’s fantastic Moat Theatre.

PERFORMANCE DRAMA

Exploring new worlds with theatrics

A high point of our young performers’ year, the performance is the culmination of a rehearsal process based in process drama and devising.

Supported by a wonderful team, all highly experienced in the theatre world, Theatrics students perform to capacity audiences at the Moat Theatre each year.

At a Theatrics show, you won’t have to search through a crowd of children to find your child because we limit our cast size. Every child takes a featured role in the performance, giving all our pupils a chance to shine.

Performance is important because it aids

By enabling the child to receive positive reinforcement from an audience

Shows the child the importance of working as part of a team where everyone has a part to play in the success of the show

Participating in and watching drama raises an appreciation of theatre as an art form. It helps the student to understand and support theatre’s place in society

Gives the child the experience of performing on a real theatre stage

Rehearsing and performing helps children sustain focus of mind, body and voice, which helps in other areas of life

Rehearsing and performing words and movement and picking up cues strengthens memory – just like exercising a muscle

Movement in drama and dance develops strength, flexibility, balance, and co-ordination
